February 2012, We are attempting to start a Hackathon series in the Maldives. The first event will be a 48hr hackathon and is currently planned to be held 26th-28 February in some place hopefully away from the hustle and bustle of Male’.

Hackathon Maldives (a.k.a Hack.mv) is a Hackathon event series. It is a non-profit movement by a group of individuals from the software development community in Maldives.

Like all hackathons, participating developers come together at a predetermined location on a designated day and spend a stretch of time working on a project and, hopefully, end up with something cool to show.

Developers may collaborate with others and form a team or may choose to work alone

Android is a Operating System for Mobile which is based on the modified version of Linux Kernal. Initially released on October 2008.

It’s been few weeks since I got my first Android Phone. (HTC Desire HD), which I liked very much, including the OS. Desire HD comes with Android 2.2.

Since I saw a Netbook with Android, I wanted to try out Android on PC, Virtually. I was able to grab a generic release from Android x86. There are also special versions for ASUS EE PC and other Netbooks. There are Acer Netbooks which comes with Android as well, I’ve seen some from Acer Aspire One Series.

I tried Android x86 2.2 on a Windows Platform with VMWare. The following are some of the screenshots from my experiment. It’s fun and worth trying, If you are a geek.

IBM’s Watson supercomputer, which is powered by 90 servers and a network-attached storage (NAS) cluster with 21.6TB of Data.

Building Watson involved integrating custom algorithms, terabytes of storage and thousands of POWER7 computing cores into an optimized solution greater than the sum of its parts.

The Gallery Dress by the CuteCircuit, which is currently in the display of FastForward Gallery at Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

We all believe that Firefox is a great browser, with extensions we can do anything from Firefox. I’ve installed couples of Firefox Extensions and here is the result.

I have listed all the extensions which I’m using. I’m on version 3.5.5 and Windows 7 32-Bit.

There are 1000s of Firefox Addons/Extensions available. The problem with most of the people is they don’t want spend time searching for great extensions.

Skype announced that It’s developing a “Open Source” version of Skype on Linux.

Customers has expressed concerns in comments saying the Skype’s Internet Protocol software might remain closed.

Skype didn’t announce a date, however they said Open Source version will be available in a nearest future. But users are asking the company to name a date on their blog.

Google Chrome version 3 is faster and it supports HTML5. There is no version for Mac released yet. Maybe they are trying to kill IE. They doesn’t care about Firefox and Safari.

Now you might be thinking what BeOS is? I’m just going to tell a bit about this project.

BeOS was an operating system for personal computers which began development by Be Inc in 1991.Its a closed source software. It was 1st written to run of Be Box.  BeOS GUI was developed based on the principles of clarity and a clean, uncluttered design. It also have access to command line through Bash.

It was a competitor to Microsoft Windows & Linux, However it was unable to achieve market. Today BeOS is used and developed by small population of Enthusiasts.
